Italy was home to diverse peoples like the Etruscans and Greeks before the rise of Rome.

After the fall of the Roman Empire, Italy fragmented into city-states like Venice, Florence, and Milan. These became cultural powerhouses during the Renaissance, sparking revolutions in art, science, and philosophy that reshaped Europe.

present

Italy today is a vibrant mix of tradition and transformation, with its pulse beating across politics, culture, and global influence.

Italy continues to shine on the world stage.

The country remains a key player in the European Union, navigating complex issues like energy, defense, and migration.

religion, beliefs & faith

Italy’s religious landscape is deeply rooted in history, yet increasingly diverse and evolving.

About 70–75% of Italians identify as Catholic. Italy is home to the Vatican City, the spiritual center of the Catholic Church and the Pope’s residence.

Religion in Italy is less about strict practice and more about identity, heritage, and community celebrations. It adds depth to the Italian way of expressing belonging and continuity.

Italy is one of the world’s top wine producers. Wine is deeply woven into daily life - typically enjoyed with meals, never rushed, and often chosen to complement local dishes.

Though traditionally overshadowed by wine, beer has carved out its own space, especially as the go-to drink with pizza.
